Choosing the Right Business Structure

  • First, choose the right ownership structure: sole owner/proprietor, partnership, LLC, or corporation. Each has its advantages and requirements.
  • LLC (Limited Liability Company): This provides liability protection. If someone sues your business, your personal assets might be safer.
  • S-Corp: By filing an LLC and treating it as an "S" Corp, you can benefit from the Qualified Business Income (QBI) 20% federal tax deduction. But it comes with additional accounting and administrative tasks.
  • DBA (Doing Business As): If your business name differs from your full legal name, you'll need to register a DBA. Like if you, Achilles, named your business 'Achilles' Mighty Health Care' instead of just 'Achilles'.

Understanding Licenses and Certifications
